What is it?

ColorSnap is a technology offered by paint companies, Sherwin Williams in this case, which allows you to use virtual reality to view paint colors online of a space in your own home.

Uses for ColorSnap

As I graduate college and advance in my career as a designer, I am hoping to lean more towards the side of interior design and architectural design, which means that this virtual reality experience is one that could benefit someone like me. I have painted rooms and done some house design in the past, and when I discovered ColorSnap I wished that I had known about it sooner, or that it would have been created sooner because it is a game changer! Having the ability to see a room with a major change such as paint color before actually painting it is an amazing advantage. It has the ability to save time, money, and paint.

Downside of ColorSnap

While exploring the possibilities of using ColorSnap, I did come across one major flaw in the system unfortunately. The pictures that you upload to view paint colors must be very high quality images with minimal shadows. This is because it changes the colors of the walls by editing every part of the image in the shade that you selected. For example, if I click on a part of the wall in the image that has a shadow on it, it will process everything else in the image that same color, including shadows that are maybe on the ceiling, and change the color of those too. With that being said, you are able to get a good idea of what your walls would look like in a new color, but you better have minimal shadows!
